Fall Asleep At Sunset
Read the story behind the album
A professor of Philosophy, Arabic and German Studies, Dr. Benjamin F. Ward became faculty advisor and an active member of the Pitchforks in 1980, and was a guiding light to the group up until his passing on December 14th, 2013.
Ben specifically requested that two works by Richard Strauss be played at his memorial service: Vier letzte Lieder (“The Four Last Songs”) and Tod und Verklärung, Op. 24 (“Death and Transfiguration”). This album - our first since Ben’s death - derives its title from two of the four last songs: Beim Schlafengehen (“When Falling Asleep”) and Im Abendrot (“At Sunset”).
We hope that this serves as a fitting tribute to the enduring impact that Ben had on us and on the music that colors our lives.
We love you, Papa Grande.
